A CENTRE named in memory of a popular community leader has been officially opened.

A ceremony was held to open Lynn Jordison House, on Broomside Lane, in Belmont, attended by family and former colleagues of the late County Durham Housing Group Board member.

The community centre has been completely refurbished by the housing group, with space for events, meetings and other activities.

Six local groups including a residents’ association, choir and child health group have already signed up to use the facility.

Ms Jordison passed away in June 2016 after a short illness. A plaque bearing the new name of the centre was unveiled by her husband, Clive, who described it as “a wonderful tribute to Lynn’s memory”.

Ms Jordison was a key member of County Durham Housing Group’s Board and also served as chair on the board of Durham City Homes.

Simon Bartlett, head of the groups’s housing operations, said: “Lynn was a highly respected member of our board who cared deeply about the communities we worked with. Naming this centre in her memory is a great way for us all to remember her”.

“I’m sure the centre will be well used and appreciated by many groups in the area.”
