THE organisers of a 10k run and half marathon have extended a scheme helping local running clubs to reward those who volunteer at the events.
The organisers of the Siglion Sunderland City 10K and Half Marathon, which take place on Sunday, May 7, are offering a cash incentive for clubs which have enough members entering the races and volunteering to help out.
Through a combination of runners and volunteers, running clubs in the region can earn up to £250.
Last year more than £1,000 was handed out to 14 clubs from the North-East.
Event founder Steve Cram said: “As well as providing loads of runners, the North East’s athletics clubs have a fantastic tradition of volunteering, and this extension to the payback scheme recognises and rewards that.”
