A TEAM volunteers from a takeaway restaurant came together to help with a spring clean.

The ten-strong team from McDonald’s joined forces with Keep Britain Tidy to tidy up in The Denes area of Darlington.

Working alongside Darlington Borough Council, the team collected ten bags of rubbish in total, after litter picking for an hour and a half they successfully made a real difference to an area popular with children and families.

Gemma Winrow, who operates the restaurant on Whessoe Road, said: “It was great to see everyone come together and help tidy up the area around The Denes Park. It’s a key priority of ours to ensure that the local area remains free of litter and an enjoyable place to live, work and visit.

“I’m proud of my staff’s ongoing commitment to making the area a better place, they did a fantastic job and the park is much safer and cleaner now for the families who spend their leisure time there.”

This year marks the seventh year of McDonald’s and Keep Britain Tidy’s ongoing partnership to help combat litter by encouraging local communities to take action and work together to tackle litter in their area.

Keep Britain Tidy chief executive Allison Ogden-Newton said: “To win the war on litter everyone needs to work together, with businesses having an exciting part to play.

“McDonald’s Love Where You Live initiative, together with their day-to-day commitment to tackling the problem through their litter patrols and their ongoing support Keep Britain Tidy, is an example of how a business can make a real difference.”
