South Shields are now three points clear at the top of the ENL after beating Marske United 4-0 tonight.
Shields took the lead after 35 minutes when Andrew Stephenson’s header was blocked by Marske keeper Robbie Dean to Carl Finnigan who scored from a few yards, then Finnigan got the second from a David Foley pass on 58 minutes.
Gavin Cogdon volleyed the third with a good volley, and Finnigan rounded Dean to complete his hat trick and give Shields their 32nd straight win in all competitions. They have also now gathered more than 100 points.
Washington climbed above West Auckland in the table to fifth bottom after goals by Gary Shaw and Jake Pickard gave them the points at Dunston, while Jarrow Roofing won 3-1 at Sunderland RCA.
