NORTH-East families are being encouraged to go wild as part of a challenge to highlight the mental and physical benefits of spending time outdoors.
A report published by the RSPB revealed that around one in five children in the region have a “healthy connection” to nature and have launched a range of Wild Challenge activities.
Around 24 family-orientated tasks include rock pooling, creating hedgehog cafés and planting for wildlife in back gardens, across woodlands and the coast.
Those taking part in the challenge can log their achievements on the RSPB Wild Challenge website to collect bronze, silver and gold awards.
Emma Reed, RSPB Families, education and youth manager in northern England, said: “Wild Challenge is a great way for families to get outside and explore together.
“Whether you are looking to improve your health, discover more about the wonderful wildlife around you, or simply make some magical memories, Wild Challenge is here to help every family go on their own wild adventure.”
