A SCHEME aimed at protecting students has been given £2,000 of funding.
The WEARSafe project at Sunderland Students’ Union is aimed at developing a city-wide bar and restaurant accreditation scheme.
Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Dame Vera Baird, who gave the funding, said: “Sunderland is a vibrant city, with a university that offers many opportunities to full and part time students.
“WEARSafe is an excellent initiative that brings together partners to ensure the safety of students during their time on and off campus.”
The students’ union is prioritising safety following an increase in hate crime in the city.
