HUNDREDS of schoolchildren have signed a giant banner in a bid to encourage locals to pick up after their pets.

Nearly 700 pupils from Cleves Cross Primary School, Dean Bank Primary School and Ferryhill Station Primary School have signed the ‘Neighbourscoop Watch’ banner asking people to help keep their community safe and clean by picking up their dog mess.

Glenys Newby of Approach Too said: “The children have told us that they are happier and healthier when they play outside with their friends.

“One of the things that sometimes spoils this is dog mess that hasn’t been picked up. The idea of the banner is to ask the community to support their campaign and to keep their streets safe and clean for everyone.”

The banner will be displayed around different schools in Ferryhill and Chilton over the next few months.

Anyone who would like to support the campaign can pick up free Neighbourscoop Watch window stickers from Ferryhill Town Hall.
