THREE teenagers were involved in a series of violent incidents over the space of a few days, committed under the influence of drink, drugs, or both.

Bailey DiCaprio, 19, 18-year-old Kristian Hearne and Aarron James Peet, 17, all from Durham, took part in violence in which two other youths were punched, kicked and stamped on, outside an off-licence in Front Street, in nearby Sacriston, at 8.20pm on January 13.

Durham Crown Court was told shortly afterwards, Peet was threatening and abusive to staff at a Chinese takeaway in neighbouring Witton Gilbert, leaving without paying for his food.

In a third incident, on January 18, DiCaprio and Hearne, armed with a knife and barbecue fork, respectively, were involved in a confrontation with a man outside his home in Cuthbert Avenue, Sherburn Road, Durham, at 10am

Laurie Taylor, prosecuting, said the pair, who appeared under the influence of drugs, lunged at the man, causing a laceration to his wrist.

DiCaprio, of Wakenshaw Road, and Hearne, of Oswald Close, each admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and threatening a person with a bladed article.

Peet, now 18, of Frankland Road, plus DiCaprio and Hearne, each admitted affray, relating to the Sacriston violence, and Peet also admitted threatening or abusive words and behaviour, arising from the takeaway incident.

Angus Taylor, for DiCaprio and Hearne, said the catalyst for the Sacriston street violence was an exchange of words over an allegedly missing mobile phone, but said in neither incident was anyone seriously injured.

Paul Abrahams, for Peet, said he has a much lesser record that his co-accused and was only 17 at the time.

Judge Deborah Sherwin described the incidents as, “unseemly in the extreme”.

DiCaprio, who has a longer record, was sentenced to 22 months in a young offenders’ institution, while Hearn received an 18-month sentence.

Peet received an eight-month sentence, suspended for two years, during which he must perform 150-hours of unpaid work.
