SCHOOL children were given a glimpse of college life as a leading sixth form opened its doors.

Youngsters travelled from as far as Bedale, Thirsk and the Upper Dales to meet staff and students and explore the facilities at Richmond Sixth Form College.

Head girl Erica Baldry and senior prefect head boy Ben Rainbow offered potential sixth formers a clear insight into student life at Richmond.

She said: “The real strength is the family feel of our sixth form college. The tutors really do get to know us and can pinpoint our strengths and weaknesses helping us gain the most from our studies.

“Being part of Richmond School also gives us opportunities. We have the independence of our own sixth form college area, but, when we need to, we can dip into school life where we act as learning mentors and role models for younger students.”

Visitors were able to talk about the courses available and the links with the Georgian Theatre Royal.

Assistant head Leslie Richardson said: “We are always very proud to show off our sixth form college facilities but more importantly the students who always prove to be our best ambassadors.”
