AN INQUEST has been opened and adjourned into the death of a 16-year-old who died in a police car chase in Teesside last week.
Brandon Morris – described by his family as a “much-loved son and brother” – was killed in the crash at the junction of Park Road North and Park Vale Road, close to Albert Park in Middlesbrough, at about 8pm on March 14.
A short hearing at Teesside Coroners Court heard brief details about him, before it was adjourned by the assistant Coroner Jo Wharton, until a later date.
The teenager, from the Saltersgill area of the town, was a passenger in a silver Ford Focus involved in a police chase, when it collided with a Nissan Qashqai.
A 17-year-old girl, a 17-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man were taken to hospital before being arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, but were released without charge. A further 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but has since been discharged from hospital.
Lee Harvey, 29, appeared at Teesside Magistrates Court last week charged with death by dangerous driving. He was remanded in custody until April 13.
