A HAIRDRESSER put her skills to good use to raise over £775 for a charity which helps victims of a terrible disease which is close to her heart.

Carrie-Anne Wise was determined to raise money to support victims of Huntington’s disease and raise awareness after her beloved Aunt Valerie Sharp, from Bedale, died at the age of 53, her grandfather had also died from the disease which can be hereditary.

Huntington’s attacks the brain and nervous system causing involuntary body movements and deterioration over years. Carrie-Anne from Kirklington, near Bedale organised the get Ahead hair and beauty evening in Kirklington village hall, working with fellow stylists from Hair and Beauty Secrets in Northallerton and Nicky Sadler of Get Ahead hats in Welbury.

Mrs Wise said:“We showcased ten beautiful models who wore 30 pieces of the most stunning headwear from Nicky's collection, the team from Secrets did a collections of beautiful and wearable hair and we shared the latest make up and beauty trends.

“It was a wonderful evening and Lee Martin, the regional advisor for Huntington’s Disease gave a very emotional and factual speech about Huntingon’s, it is such a wicked disease and it’s so important that we raise awareness and help to support victims as well as carrying out research.”

Now Carrie-Anne is determined to carry on fundraising and has entered the Great North run, “It’s absolutely terrifying because I don’t run, I’ve got to start training to get from no miles to over 13 in just a few months, but then it will be a challenge,” she added.
