A WAREHOUSE fire burned through the night on Sunday after it spread to four tonnes of coal and tyres.

Members of the public spotted the blaze in Ferryhill just after 4.10pm and alerted emergency services.

Five appliances attended the incident, on Commercial Street, Chilton Lane, Ferryhill as well as the Command Support Unit and the Water Bowser.

A spokesman for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said: "One warehouse 25m by 10m containing timber and kindling was on fire and some coal and tyres were also well alight.

"Appliances attended from Spennymoor, Sedgefield, Newton Aycliffe, Bishop Auckland and Darlington and an appliance stayed on scene until Monday afternoon.

"An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing and as far as we are aware there were no injuries."
