NATHAN THOMAS has been shortlisted for the Football League’s goal of the season award.

The Hartlepool United wide man has nine goals to his name this season despite missing three months through injury.

His deft angled finish, chipping the goalkeeper from the edge of the area in the 3-0 win at Grimsby in October, is one of ten shortlisted for the award.

Votes can be made on line at efl.com/goty17 before March 28 when the top three will be put forward for the award.

Pools were without Liam Donnelly (dead leg) and Rhys Oates through fatigue on Saturday against Wycombe on Saturday, with Jones hoping the pair will be back for the weekend trip to Blackpool, for which Pools have already sold over 1,000 tickets.

The club has appointed a new goalkeeping coach in former Bristol City stopper Adriano Basso. He has moved after a spell at FC United of Manchester, but he has not signed a playing contract with Pools and joins Dave Jones’ backroom staff.

One of Jones’ assistants was absent at the weekend, with Alex Armstrong away on international duty with New Zealand for their World Cup qualifying double header in Fiji on Saturday and then at home to the same opponents the following Tuesday.
