Former Sunderland and Middlesbrough midfielder Julio Arca inspired South Shields as they swept Coleshill aside by 4-0 to clinch a Wembley place in the FA Buildbase Vase final on a 6-1 aggregate.

Arca superbly broke the deadlock in front of a 3,464 crowd just before half time, and that gave Shields the platform to go on and become the tenth club from the Northern League in the last 20 years to reach the Vase final on May 21st, when they will play Cleethorpes, the conquerors of Billingham Town earlier in the competition.

It will be Arca’s first ever trip to Wembley after nearly twenty years as a player, and he said; "For me personally, I’ve never had the chance to play at that stadium before and I’m really looking forward to it “Reaching Wembley feels fantastic. It means a lot to the club, to the people behind the scenes who do a lot to keep the club going and keep things right for the players. It’s a dream come true.”

Joint manager Graham Fenton took North Shields to Wembley two seasons ago, and he said; “We were magnificent, we started ever so well and didn’t let Coleshill get a head of steam. They had maybe 15 minutes in the first half when they played quite well, but Julio’s goal set us on our way. He was magnificent today and he’s had a couple of tears in the dressing room, that shows how much it means to him.

“We’re delighted to be going to Wembley, and with the squad of players we’ve got, we don’t see why we can’t win it.”

Shields nearly took the lead in the opening minutes when Andrew Stephenson struck the woodwork , and after Shields went close twice more, they nearly fell behind but keeper Liam Connell denied Dean Rathbone with a great one handed save.

But Shields took a grip on the game thanks to a moment of magic from Arca, when he picked up a pass from Gavin Cogdon and beat the keeper with a terrific left foot shot from 20 yards.

Arca nearly got a second when he dribbled through and was denied at the start of the second half, before Shields’ fans started making their travel plans with a second goal on 62 minutes, when Gavin Cogdon picked up a through ball from Robbie Briggs and lifted it over the advancing keeper.

Shields kept control of the game after that, and they got a third in the last minute of normal time when Carl Finnigan scored from an Alex Nicholson assist, then David Foley broke through and finished the scoring with a left foot shot.
