THE county town of North Yorkshire will be hosting its second 10km run in May - and organisers have been overwhelmed by the response.

The Northallerton 10K will start and finish on the town's High Street on May 28 and follows the huge success of the inaugural event last year when some 500 people took part.

Race organiser Thomas Kerfoot said 600 places have already been sold with two months to go - bringing them closer to their objective of 1,000 entrants within the next three years.

The scenic yet challenging course takes runners out of the town centre, into the countryside and then back for a big finish on the High Street.

Local businesses have got behind the event with an extensive list of sponsors backing the race, with Simon Bailes Peugeot as headline sponsor.

All entrance fees and proceeds will go to Pendragon Community Trust, a Northallerton-based charity that recently opened its doors to a multi-sensory centre catering to a wide range of disabilities.
