VISITORS to a popular attraction can step back in time to enjoy afternoon tea, Edwardian style.

Starting on Sunday, Beamish Museum is to offer traditional afternoon teas, with sandwiches, home-made scones with clotted cream and jam and sweet treats from the museum’s Herron’s Bakery.

They are served in style a room next to the museum’s tea rooms in The 1900s Town, furnished in the style of an early ice-cream parlour with wooden booths and mirrored fixtures.

Denise Hodge, Beamish’s head of food, said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer afternoon tea at Beamish.

“It’s fantastic that we can give visitors the chance to indulge in a delicious experience in the beautiful setting of our Edwardian Town.”

The afternoon teas have been developed by catering assistant Sarah Gallagher, part of the People Development Programme, which gives staff the chance to implement their ideas to improve visitors’ experiences.

She spent many months researching, costing, developing and testing the Afternoon Tea and said: “I can’t believe it’s come together and the hard work has paid off”.

Afternoon tea is available every day from March 26, excluding school holidays and special events, and costs £11.95 per person or £8.95 for children.
