FOUR people were arrested in a series of raids on suspected drug dealers in East Durham.

The raids by Durham Police were part of Operation Relentless and took place in Horden. They were aimed at tackling the supply of controlled drugs in the area.

A total of 35 Police Officers executed Magistrates Search Warrants at four addresses using intelligence gathered from the local community.

Those targeted are alleged to have been selling controlled drugs at street level, some of whom police say are part of an organised crime group.

Four people were held and a quantity of drugs and cash seized.

Enquiries continue as those arrested are currently being interviewed.

Insp Lee Blakelock, of Peterlee Neighbourhood policing team, said: “We continue to work closely with the community to listen to their concerns.

"We executed several warrants in December and today sees more action against those who feel it acceptable to blight our community through crime, drugs and anti-social behaviour.

"What I want to make clear is that we work closely with partner agencies to tackle crime from all angles whether it be tenancy enforcement or children’s services.

"This ensures we not only tackle the crime, but look further into the family dynamics. We want to make sure children grow up in a community that is safe and free from harm.

"I encourage the community to give us the intelligence and can contact us directly via 101 or using Crimestoppers on 08000 555 111."
