WOMEN’S resistance and resilience will be celebrated at an event in Darlington.
To mark International Women’s Day, politically active women will speak at the Friends Meeting House from 7.30pm on Wednesday, March 7.
Women’s Resistance in the Trump Era will feature addresses from women representing Momentum Darlington, Darlington Young Labour and the Durham teaching assistants’ campaign.
Organiser Tracy McGuire hopes to inspire more women to become politically active, saying the issue was particularly relevant in light of the election of the USA’s president, Donald Trump.
Ms McGuire, from Momentum Darlington, said: “This will be a celebration of women’s resilience and struggle, which is particularly relevant at the moment given that Donald Trump is trying to revoke women’s rights.”
She added: “In Durham, the teaching assistants’ campaign has been led by inspiring women, many of whom have not been politically active before - we want to encourage more people to become politically involved.”
