A BAND is holding a celebration concert to mark its 40th anniversary year.

Durham University Concert Band (DUCB) is holding the event at Durham Town Hall, on Wednesday, March 8.

Conductors Evan Penn and Laura Scott will be leading the ensemble, which is open to all brass, woodwind and percussion players.

The anniversary concert will feature a range of music including Percy Grainger’s Lincolnshire Posie, Bernstein’s movie scores and the Dukes Jazz.

Kweku Bimpong, DUCB publicity officer, said: “It’s a big deal for us and we’re really looking forward to it.

The band first performed on Palace Green in 1978 and now tries to host at least three concerts a year.

Standard tickets are £8, concessions are £6 and Music Durham members are £5. They can be purchased from the Music Durham website at www.musicdurham.org/event/ducbanniversary/ and will be available on the door.

Doors open at 6.45pm for a 7pm start and the concert will be followed by a drinks reception.
