A BYGONE era was evoked at an afternoon tea dance in Hurworth last week.

Singer and actress Hildy Harland serenaded visitors as a vintage tea dance got underway at The Mustard Tree Café on Thursday.

Ladies group Pimms and Needles hosted the lively event for the elderly residents of Hurworth and the surrounding villages.

It saw guests enjoy renditions of classic songs from the likes of the Andrews sisters and Marilyn Monroe while tucking into cream teas and scones.

Pimms and Needles founders, Charlotte Pyrah and Donna Feeney, said a lovely afternoon had been had by all.

Ms Pyrah added: “It’s been so nice to give something back to the local community, our members have really pulled together to make this afternoon happen.”

Ms Feeney said: “To see everyone singing along and having a little dance has been heart-warming – we’d love to do more events like this in the future.”

Members of Pimms and Needles, which was established in a bid to promote community spirit and share skills, take part in a variety of activities including knitting, drawing, DIY and salsa dancing.

There is a waiting list to join the Darlington group but branches in Aycliffe Village, Barnard Castle and Richmond are expected to be launched soon.
