A HOUSE in a County Durham village has gone on the market for just £1.

The two-bedroom end of terrace house in Sacriston has been empty for a number of years and needs investment estimated between £15,000 and £30,000 to make it habitable.

The property in Findon Hill has been empty since the death of the owner.

It has been boarded up for at least three years and has been empty for between five and ten years, according to estate agent Michael Hughes.

Mr Hughes, manager at Robinson's Estate Agents in Chester-le-Street, said: "It's in a nice street but its incomparable to any other property because of the condition its in so it's difficult to put a price on it.

"The fairest thing we could think of to do would be to put the asking price at £1 and see who wants to buy it the most."

He added: "It's difficult to say how much it will go for. I thought around £30,000 but the interest has been phenomenal so it could go for £40,000 or £50,000."

The auction will be held on Tuesday, April 4.
