TWO men have appeared in court after a working mens club was broken into on Thursday night.

Cockton Hill Working Mens Club, in Cockton Hill Road, Bishop Auckland, was targeted during the night and the club’s fruit machine was stolen and other damage was also caused.

The men suspected of carrying out the raid were arrested and appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning where they both faced the same charged of trespassing and stealing the fruit machine.

One man indicated a guilty plea and will next appear at Durham Crown Court on March 17.

The other, who pleaded not guilty, will go on trial for the offence at Durham Crown Court on March 24.

Both men were remanded in custody until their next appearance.
