A BUILDING society is encouraging children to save with the help of train inspired money boxes.

Darlington Building Society (DBS) has launched Darly the train money boxes to go alongside its new children’s savings account.

The ceramic money boxes have been designed with the help of Harrogate-base brand agency Shift to express Darly’s character and are intended to encourage youngsters into the habit of saving.

The children will be able to collect three carriages in bronze, silver and gold to go with the engine by saving regularly and building up the money in their account.

Adam Lloyd, creative director at Shift said: “From the initial concept, we wanted to combine the rich railway heritage of the area with a modern twist that would appeal to the younger generations.

“We are delighted with the results and look forward to seeing how Darly progresses in the future.”

Caroline Darnbrook of DBS, who created the concept, added: “Darlington is the home of the railway and that was the inspiration behind Darly.

“It is a great opportunity to start young children on the road to learning about the value of money and getting into the savings habit.”
