A DERELICT community centre has been put on the market as part of efforts to improve a village.
Offers are now being invited for Collier House in Sunnybrow, which closed down six years ago. Many consider the building to be an eyesore, and it is hoped a new owner can be found who will bring it back to life.
The building sits on 0.3 acres of land and Durham County Council is offering it for sale for a variety of uses including community, medical, day care, religious, offices, residential and food and drink.
Willington and Hunwick county councillor Fraser Tinsley said: “The building is run down and has become an eyesore. It would be good to bring it back into some kind of use and improve the look of the area.”
Collier House was built in the 1980s as a community centre with warden’s accommodation on the first floor. It is a combination of single and two-storey blocks. There is also a garden and a car park with six bays.
Offers must reach the council’s head of legal and democratic services by 4pm on Monday, May 8. To arrange a viewing, contact Andrew Savage on 03000-267047.
