A MILITARY charity has unveiled a new regional facility maximise the support it can give to local veterans

The announcement of a new Walking with The Wounded (WWTW) regional facility in Gateshead was made to Prince Harry during his visit to the region on Tuesday to learn more about the work the charity is doing to support veterans at risk with mental health issues.

WWTW and Gateshead Council are working together to establish a regional hub to enable the charity to offer employment and criminal justice support and guidance, an office and six supported accommodation beds for homeless veterans.

The charity will also work with organisations that provide welfare, employment and other support to best ensure that the veteran is able to access all the services that may be available under one roof to get them back into sustainable employment and regain their independence as a member of society.

The decision to open up a WWTW Hub in the North-East follows the success of the regional hub that was set up in the North-West in October 2015.

The Manchester Hub has seen a positive impact across that region, with an ever increasing flow of individuals accessing the services provided by the charity.

Ed Parker, Co-Founder and CEO, Walking With The Wounded commented: “Having seen the impact we have made to the lives of so many veterans in the North West through our Hub in Manchester it seemed only natural to head to the North East next to offer the same support to the region.”

"We are hugely grateful to Gateshead Council for working with us to provide a thorough and effective solution to veterans who need our help in the area. Through this North-East hub, our aim is to get 3000 individuals into sustainable employment in the next 10 years."
