YOUNGSTERS have spent a day dedicated to making numeracy fun as part of a charity number day.

Leyburn Primary School took part in the NSPCC Number Day to practice maths skills and raise money for disadvantaged children.

The day, organised by the charity, encouraged schools nationwide to participate in numeracy activities which are meant to be fun and would raise money for the charity that prevents the abuse of young people.

The pupils and staff at Leyburn took part in several different maths activities which culminated in the whole school assembling in the playground and spelling out the letters NSPCC in coins.

The different amounts of cash had been donated by the pupils and different year groups had to estimate and then count how much money was on each letter.

More than 1,000 donated coins all added up to a grand total of £145 – as correctly counted by the children.

Leyburn Primary School headteacher Sarah Bevridge said: “We really appreciate the generous donations towards this worthy cause; we also had a lot of fun and learned some useful numeracy skills along the way.”
