A VILLAGE hall’s future is looking bright thanks to a £2,000 donation.

Cowshill and Lanehead Village Hall Committee has used the money to replace the building’s existing lights with more efficient LED lights. The wiring has also been extended and new plug sockets introduced to assist the computer club and other groups that use the centre.

Weardale county councillor John Shuttleworth donated the money from his neighbourhood budget.

He said: “Cowshill and Lanehead Village Hall is the last village hall before the Cumbrian border and is very well supported by the sparsely populated rural community. The funds which I have given can only complement the hard work which the Village Hall Committee have done over the past few years, and I am happy to support them in their efforts.”

Jeff Bailey, treasurer of Cowshill and Lanehead Village Hall, said: “We are so grateful for this donation of £2,000. Our new lights are much more efficient.”
