LEGENDARY musician Brian Wilson is bringing the Pet Sounds album tour to the North-East this summer.

The Beach Boys star will be in Newcastle on Sunday, August 6, bringing Live From Times Square, an outdoor music festival, to a stunning and memorable close.

Taking place opposite the Centre for Life, the 74-year-old composer and arranger will delight fans by performing one of the most celebrated albums of all time in full.

The co-founder of the Beach Boys is currently on a world tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of Pet Sounds.

He said: “I’m really happy to be able to come back to the UK and perform Pet Sounds yet again for all our fans.

“The response from everyone has been amazing and that’s why we decided to come back and play Pet Sounds for one last time.

“We want to thank the fans in the UK for all their support, and look forward to playing these shows this summer.”

Originally released on May 16, 1966, Pet Sounds is universally hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time.

Wilson and his band are joined on this tour by former bandmates Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin.

Concert stops have included dates in Australia, Japan, United Kingdom, Spain, Israel, and Portugal followed by a full US tour later this summer and autumn.

Fans can expect a live performance of Pet Sounds in its entirety, as well as top hits spanning his 54-year career with The Beach Boys and as a solo artist.
In 1965, with the Beach Boys out on tour, Wilson began session work on some of the most deeply personal recordings of his career.

Inspired by The Beatles Rubber Soul, he challenged himself to create an immaculate musical masterpiece.

A vast departure from the bands’ then commercial sound, the resulting concept album Pet Sounds achieved great critical success helping usher in a new musical landscape and hit the Top 10 in the US while topping the charts in the UK.
Wilson added: “It’s really been a trip to sit here and think about releasing Pet Sounds 50 years ago.

“I love performing this album with my band and look forward to playing it for fans all across the world.”

Steve Davis, of SSD Concerts, said: “Pet Sounds, like Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles, is one of the most influential records of all time and to be able to confirm Brian Wilson as our closing act for this year's Live From Times Square event is an amazing honour.

“If you haven't been able to get tickets to see him perform this album elsewhere, this is your last chance. It's an event you can't afford to miss.”
