CHILDREN hope their artistic creations will stop “careless” driving outside a Newton Acyliffe school.
Pupils from St Joseph’s RCVA Primary School have designed and stuck up posters around the premises to highlight the importance of parking and driving safely.
Members of the school council worked with PCSO Steven Gill on ideas of how to issue a warning to parents dropping off and collecting their children in vehicles.
Sharon Walker, school teaching assistant, said: “It started as a result of parents complaining about parking issues outside the school. It’s a bottle neck where we are, like many of the schools in Newton Aycliffe.”
The school council’s project also tied in with Durham Police, Crime and Victim’s Commissioner Ron Hogg’s designated Road Safety Awareness Month which is running throughout February.
Pupils made the posters this week and pinned them up with the help of PCSO Gill on Thursday (February 16).
