Catterick Leisure Centre

Catterick Leisure Centre offer a highly recommended Holiday Camp which caters for 5 to 11 year olds. Following a recent Ofsted inspection and excellent feedback Holiday Starz was upgraded to provide Full Day Care in Catterick Garrison. Activities are plentiful and include sports, arts and crafts and swimming in the award winning 22 million Leisure Centre. At only £14 per day or £65 per week it is the perfect environment for your child’s next holiday.

Locomotion The National Railway Museaum at Shildon

Always a great day out Learn more about our railway heritage through fun interactive displays – plus more than 70 heritage rail vehicles on show. Admire our display of more than 70 railway heritage vehicles from the National Collection – including the prototype Deltic; British Rail's Advanced Passenger Train; and the iconic L.M.S. locomotive LNER No. 4771 Green Arrow. Some have been stored in the open for many years, whilst others have been finely restored.  Check out the progress on our Conservation Workshop's latest railway restoration projects from a purpose built viewing platform.Enjoy the outdoors and get on board the climbing frames, slides, scramble nets and swings in our railway themed adventure playground. Flamingoland

Whilst the theme park area is closed until 1st April 2017, our amazing animal collection is open DAILY.  There is then additional Winter entertainment at weekends and school holidays – as well as the zoo, there are 5 rides for small children and sea lion and bird shows included, for a small additional cost.   From 11th February, parts of Dino-Stone Park and the outdoor Pirates of Zanzibar acrobatic show will also be operating on selected days – see date grid below. If you would like to book a short break in our Gate House, Riverside Cottages or a luxury lodge during the winter period, you will have access to the daytime entertainment shown below.  Simply call 0800 40 888 40 for competitive rates. Fully central heated holiday homes will also be available from 11th February (minimum stay – two nights).

Bowlees Visitor Centre

Throughout February half-term Bowlees Visitor Centre will are having a bird themed half-term with fun for all the family. All week we will have a bird trail up around the grounds where you will be asked to identify some of our most popular birds. To find them you can loan a pair of binocular and watch them from behind out willow bird hide.   On our first Wild Wednesday of the year (February 22) come along to Watch the Birdy. We will have a guided bird walk at 11.15 and birdy crafts back at the centre. It's £3 per child and the event runs from 11 – 3.30.   Then on Saturday, February 25 come and take part in Cosy Homes for Feathered Friends. We will be making nest boxes for the nesting season. Booking is essential at visitbowlees.org.uk  The club is £5 annual membership and each Saturday session is £1 per session and includes refreshments. See website for details.

Durham Cathedral

An exhibition of the weird and wonderful beasts and monsters which have fascinated people from earliest times. From illustrations of lions and dragons in medieval manuscripts, to early printed books of natural history which feature sea serpents and wyverns alongside images of the rhinoceros or elephant, and the ‘evidence’ presented to prove the existence of such fantastic creatures as griffins and unicorns. Thorpe Perrow

The Falcons of Thorp Perrow is the ultimate family day out, incorporating the opportunity to learn more about birds of prey and associated wildlife, with the enjoyment of hands on experience for all the family. In the springtime, the ultimate experience for any child is meeting with one of our young owls and falcons, hatched through our breeding programme, and throughout the seasons. New arrivals can be seen going through our training programme.
