POLICE have named a cyclist who died in a collision in County Durham on Sunday.

Stuart Price, from Murton in County Durham, died following a collision with a black Jaguar on Colliery Lane next to the junction with Murton Lane, near to Easington Lane in Hetton-Le-Hole, at about 10.25am.

Emergency services attended, but Mr Price was pronounced dead at the scene.

Specialist officers are supporting the 24-year-old's family.

The driver of the Jaguar, who stopped at the scene of the collision, was not injured, but was very shaken by the incident.

An investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances around the collision and police are now appealing for anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

At the time of the incident Mr Price was wearing a Boyle Sports Sunderland AFC football shirt and blue adidas trainers with white stripes. He was riding a distinctive white Lapierre full suspension mountain bike.

Motor Patrols Sergeant Lee Butler, of the Operations Department, said: "It is always a tragedy when someone loses their life in a collision and we are supporting Stuart's family at this time.

"This collision occurred on a Sunday morning and a number of people were in the area at the time. It is important that we speak to those individuals so we can piece together exactly what happened.

"We would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen Stuart riding the bike or the black Jaguar being driven between Murton and Hetton that morning."
