A SUPERMARKET cleaner has raised £1,700 by shaving her head for charity.

Joan Cook, from Consett, braved the shave to support her daughter, Louise, who is currently being treated for breast cancer.

The money she raised with the stunt at Tesco in Consett at the weekend is going towards Cancer Research UK.

She said: “I want to raise money to help make a difference in the hope that one day other families won’t experience fighting cancer.

“I felt positive about the head shave as I know that people being treated for cancer don’t have a choice about losing their hair.

“I know the money is going to a brilliant cause in Cancer Research UK and it happening so close to home is what’s inspired me to do it.

“I am hoping one day all cancers are cured.”
