LITTLE Bradley Lowery fell asleep cuddling his idol Jermaine Defoe after footballers from his beloved Sunderland paid a surprise visit to him in hospital today.

The five-year-old, from Blackhall, east Durham, has touched the nation's hearts in his battle against a rare form of cancer called neroblastoma.

Brave Bradley, who is currently undergoing pioneering antibody treatment in Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, has has won the backing of football fans across the country.

And today he earned a special treat when Sunderland stars Jermain Defoe, John O'Shea, Seb Larsson and Vito Mannone paid him a visit in his hospital ward.

Pictures posted on his Facebook Page - Bradley Lowery’s Fight Against Neuroblastoma - show him hugging each of the players before dropping off in the arms of star striker Defoe.

A post on Bradley's Facebook page reads: "Bradley is doing well and has cheered up after having some very special visitors.

"Thank you to Sunderland AFC you have been amazing for Bradley. Bradley had lots of fun with the boys and then fell asleep cuddling Jermaine Defoe."

Defoe responded with the tweet: "Love you little man #bestfriends".

Goalkeeper Mannone posted: "Can't describe how lovely this little fighter is!great time with @bradleysfight".

Everton Blue Army, a fan page for the club, tweeted: "Whatever team you support, no matter what, this photo will give you lump in back your throat, beautiful."

Supporters also posted their thoughts on Facebook. 

Amanda Pollard described Bradley as "the nation's little soldier", adding: Iit's always lovely to see that big smile of yours Bradley.

"Well done to the Sunderland players who took time out from their lives to help bring a smile to little Bradley's face."

Annette Palmer Coleman added: "Absolutely amazing, such a brave inspirational superhero you are Bradley."

And Emily Brand posted: "Total respect to all of the lads. To put a smile on the little fighter's face must be the best feeling in the world."
