A SAME sex couple have launched a crowdfunding campaign to help them have a child.

Chelsea and Sarah Cruickshank-Maltby are hoping to raise £7,000 for private artificial insemination treatment via GoFundMe.

The Middlesbrough couple want a procedure called intrauterine insemination (IUI), which uses a sperm donor.

Unemployed Chelsea said she is asking for strangers to pay for as she can’t afford it.

The 25-year-old said: “A lot of people say GoFundMe shouldn’t be used to raise money to have a baby, but you have to start somewhere. I find it unfair that a lot of gay people have to pay for it – having a baby is a human right.”

The appeal has so far secured £90 towards their appeal and said she has been trying to get free help on the NHS for six years.

The pair now face paying £2,100-per-round at a centre in Darlington for their treatment.

On their fundraising page, the couple admit they are “struggling” to meet that cost with only 24-year-old Sarah - an agency admin worker – employed.

Chelsea, of Hampden Street, South Bank, said if they are successful after the first round of treatment, they will use the cash to help others in a similar situation.
