PATIENTS and family affected by cancer can now access a new drop-in service to get help and support.

The free service by Teesside Hospice aims to reach out to more people in need to help carers, friends or anyone affected by cancer and other life limiting illnesses.

No appointment needs to be made, and those attending will be able to talk with a member of the hospice’s specialist team who will discuss their individual needs and how they can provide support.

Practical, emotional, psychological and even spiritual support is on offer, as well as information about local sources of help. There will be a social worker, support for carers, plus complementary therapies.

Kimberley Hunt, Senior Staff Nurse at Teesside Hospice, said: “People often think that Hospice’s provide end-of-life care only. Whilst that is an important part of what we do, we also provide support right from diagnosis. That’s why we have opened our doors, to help more people affected by cancer and other life limiting illnesses maintain a sense of well-being and a positive approach to living with such an illness.”

Anyone needing support can drop into the hospice on 1 Northgate Road, Linthorpe, TS5 5NW on Thursdays between 10am – 6pm, starting on February 2.

Other help available at the Drop-in Service includes support from a Social Worker, advice and support for carers, family or friends, plus complementary therapies (up to 6 treatment sessions by appointment).

On your visit to the Hospice you can attend alone or with a friend or relative, there will also be the opportunity to view and ¬find out about additional services if you wish.
