A GLITTERING ball will mark the lasting legacy of an inspirational young woman who dedicated her final months to raising awareness of brain tumours.

When Anna Swabey discovered she had a terminal brain tumour at the tender age of 23 she turned her mind to promoting the devastating effects of the disease and raised almost £100,000 in the process.

Having captured the attention of the nation in her selfless pursuit to help others, the determined campaigner deteriorated and died at the age of 25 surrounded by loved ones on September 16 last year - just one day before her wedding.

In a bid to fulfil their pledge to continue her campaign and following the success of Miss Swabey’s Cinderella fundraiser in 2015, the blogger’s bereaved family are set to host a Midnight in Paris-inspired ball.

Miss Swabey’s sister Victoria Cartwright said: “It was always our intention to arrange another ball after the success of our Cinderella Ball in May 2015.

“Anna was in her element organising everything and we talked at length about what our next one would be like.

“And even though the main lady isn’t here to crack the whip and oversee everything, we are determined to make our next one a huge success.”

The “intimate and lavish” black tie event will take place at Woodham Golf Club, Newton Aycliffe, on Saturday, March 25, at 7pm and will include a four-course meal, entertainment, raffle and auction.

“Our last charity ball raised over £5,000 as we had some truly amazing raffle and auction prizes on offer, and some incredibly generous and supportive guests,” added Mrs Cartwright. “We are hoping that this year’s prizes will be just as fantastic and that we can raise as much as we can for research into the terrible disease that took our beautiful Anna.” Money raised will go towards the Brain Tumour Research Campaign - the charity which Miss Swabey devoted her last 20 months to.

Thanks to Miss Swabey’s unwavering efforts, the support of family and friends and donations from far and wide, the running total of the fund now stands at a staggering £106,000.

Mrs Cartwright said: “As a family we have all committed to continuing where Anna left off with her fundraising for Brain Tumour Research Campaign, and we are so grateful to the people who have helped keep her legacy going so far.”

Tickets for the ball are priced at £27. For information, to book or to donate a raffle or auction prize contact Lox of Love on 01325-327362 or email linda@loxoflove.co.uk
