AN MP has backed an alcohol awareness campaign which is being promoted by one of her local supermarkets.
Asda Bishop Auckland and alcohol education charity Drinkaware are working together to provide free information and advice on alcohol so people in the area can make informed choices.
Bishop Auckland MP Helen Goodman visited the store on Friday when a stand was set-up to give customers the opportunity to access friendly advice and to ask questions.
Participants were encouraged to complete a quick alcohol assessment, could take home a free alcohol unit measuring cup and calorie wheel and parents were given tips on how to speak to their children about alcohol.
Ms Goodman said: “We know that the North East has the record highest rate of alcohol related deaths in England so I welcome Asda’s campaign to ensure that local shoppers have the information that they need to make sensible decisions about their alcohol intake.”
