A DARLINGTON singer who has performed alongside Sir Tom Jones will debut her latest single in the New Year.

Folk singer-songwriter Hayley McKay, from Hurworth, has her sights set on BBC Radio Two’s playlist as she prepares to release Unspoken.

The single marks another career high point for the 25-year-old, who performed with legendary singer, Sir Tom Jones at his concert on the Isle of Man this summer.

Ms McKay has enjoyed a year in the limelight, after touring with Scouting For Girls and performing at festivals including Glastonbury, Northumberland Live and The Cornbury Festival.

Her voice also features on the soundtrack of Teesside based film, Harrigan.

Singing has been a life-long dream for the performer who won a national competition that funded a scholarship to study vocals in 2011.

Ms McKay later graduated from London music college, Access to Music, where former alumni include Rita Ora, Jesse Glynne and Ed Sheeran.

Ms McKay took her talent global in 2015 when she performed at the birthplace of country music, Nashville, USA.

In a previous interview with The Northern Echo, she said: “This is proving to be an incredible year for me and I’m looking forward to releasing my new single.”

Ms McKay is also a regular at London music venues including The Troubadour, Ronnie Scott’s, The Half Moon, The Bedford and the O2 Academy in Islington.

She will make a return to the North East in the new year, when she is scheduled to play Stockton’s Music Lounge on Saturday, January 14.
