SCHOOL inspectors have awarded a ‘good’ overall rating to a Darlington primary school for a third time in a row.

Firthmoor Primary School achieved the second highest Ofsted ranking following a recent inspection of the site.

Inspectors found that the school off Ingleby Moor Crescent ensured pupils were “well-prepared” for their next stage of education in the town’s secondary school.

Ann Dixon, headteacher at Firthmoor Primary School, said: “Staff and governors are delighted that the report acknowledges the many strengths of the school and recognises that our pupils show a positive attitude to learning.

“The school believes firmly in the value of a planned programme of visits and visitors which benefits pupils’ knowledge.

“We are extremely pleased that Ofsted recognises the positive relationship which exists between the school and parents to ensure the best outcome for our children.”

Inspectors assessed the school for the effectiveness of leadership and management, the quality of teaching and learning, personal development, behaviour and welfare of pupils and outcomes for pupils.

Lessons were observed during the Ofsted visit, as well as inspectors listening to pupils reading and engaging with teachers.

Firthmoor Primary School’s governors had praise for members of staff and pupils, but urged the school to continue making improvements to achieve the top ‘outstanding’ rating.

John Dean, chairman of governors, added: “It is the third time in a row that we have achieve such a high rating and it stands testament to everyone involved, the children, staff and governors.

“We are very proud of getting a ‘good’ rating in the Ofsted. We know there is a lot of work to do but the report clearly recognises the school’s strengths.

“I think the thing is that sets Firthmoor Primary School apart is that the staff and governors work hard to constantly improve to help the children achieve the best they can.”

Previous Ofsted reports at the school have highlighted the quality of teaching, children’s good behaviour and creative and inspiring lesson topics.

Mr Dean added: “It is great to see the journey the children make and it all helps them move onto the next stage of their education.”
