A TABLE tennis team is on course to defend its National Junior League title after a series of victories.

Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club excelled at the second round of the contest at Ormesby in Middlesbrough.

The A team maintained their unbeaten run and remain in first place, with an eight point advantage over their rivals. The B team, meanwhile, are in fifth place.

Matt Porter, chairman and coaching director, said: “This is the biggest regional competition and I’m really pleased with our performance so far.

“The A team won last year but those players have moved on and so it’s a new team - last year’s B team - defending the title. The fact they are doing so well demonstrates the progression of the players and their hunger to keep the momentum going.”

The National Junior League runs until April and is at the halfway stage.
