ANTI-BULLYING ambassadors at a Darlington school have had their efforts rewarded by their young pupils.

Springfield Academy was the only North-East school recognised in the inaugural Power for Good awards.

Four members of staff were nominated for an award for their efforts in tackling bullying at the school.

Pupils nominated teacher Kelly McManus, deputy head Paula Austin and teaching assistants Cathryn Lee and Lisa Smith for going above and beyond to take action against bullies.

Headteacher Angela Henderson, said staff and pupils were thrilled that the school had been singled out for praise.

She added: “I’m absolutely delighted that the children thought so highly of our staff.

“Of course, tackling bullying is part of their job but what they do shows how deeply they care for every single child at this school.

“We value our pupils’ emotional wellbeing and academic achievements and will do our best to support them in any way that we can.

“We always want to make them feel safe and welcome and it’s lovely that these particular staff have been recognised, it shows that our children feel supported by them.”

Year six teacher Ms McManus said: “I feel very proud to have received this recognition and would like to thank the children that put me forward.

“It’s fantastic to know that students recognise that staff are there to support them and help them through their education”

Each nominee received a certificate thanking them for their dedication from the Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA).

ABA launched the Power for Good awards to recognise teachers and staff who go beyond the call of duty to help children with issues around bullying, relationships and mental health.
