A PUB is staging a special fundraiser to help a teenage boy with a rare, life-limiting genetic condition fulfil his football dream.

The Old English Gentleman in Bondgate, Darlington, is holding a day of free activities on Saturday (November 12) in aid of Kyran Richmond Fundraising.

Kyran, from Chilton, County Durham, is one of only three people in the North-East to suffer from a neurodegenerative disorder known as Juvenile Batten Disease.

His family are determined to make as many memories with Kyran as possible and hope to take the football mad 13-year-old to Barcelona in Spain next spring to watch a game in the famous New Camp stadium.

When family friend and fundraiser Cheryl Ellis told Rachel Featherstone, landlady of the Old English Gentlemen, about Kyran’s dream she was determined to help.

Ms Featherstone already has collection boxes for Kyran on the bar but decided to go one step further and organise an event.

The pub will boast a black carpet and balloon arch at the entrance throughout the day and there will be collection buckets and raffle tickets for sale.

On the night, from 7.30pm, there will be live music, a pie and peas supper and the prize-laden raffle will be drawn.

Many local businesses have already donated prizes and more donations are welcome and can be dropped off at the pub.

Kyran’s mother Debbie Richmond said: “To have the support of local people and businesses means so much to us.”
