IT'S a sign Christmas is drawing nearer - as department store Fenwick revealed its celebrated animated windows to a crowd of thousands in Newcastle city centre on Friday.

This year's concept - the 45th anniversary of its famous Christmas window display - is inspired by the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter and was unveiled by youngsters from The Great North Children's Hospital.

The most popular of Potter's stories are depicted at the Northumberland Street store, including Peter Rabbit, Jeremy Fisher, Jemima Puddle-Duck and the Tailor of Gloucester.

After the unveiling, Peter Rabbit put in an appearance to greet the crowds.
