SPENNYMOOR Police have stepped up patrols in the town following reports of anti-social behaviour.

Officers said last week there had been anti-social and disorderly behaviour caused by a small group of local youths aged between 12 and 16.

On Facebook, they wrote: “Their activities have included climbing on buildings in High Street and Cheapside, throwing items at vehicles and persons, using abusive and insulting words towards members of the community and hanging on the back of buses travelling up and down the High Street and Cheapside.”

Police have confirmed they are conducting proactive patrols in the town centre.

On Thursday four youngsters were taken home by police.

Further work is ongoing to tackle the problem.

Members of the public are advised to contact police directly with information as officers do not have access to some social media sites where reports are made.

Anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour is asked to call non-emergency 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
