THE mother of a boy diagnosed with a terminal illness has praised a local boxing club after they renamed their gym after him.

Kyran Richmond, 13, was diagnosed with Juvenile Battens Disease when he was six, which affects his vision, mobility and concentration.

The youngster has visited his local boxing gym every Friday since he was three with his grandfather, Keith.

Derek Slater, who runs Mainsforth Boxing Club, said it was their way of showing Kyran, of Chilton, how much he means to them.

“The idea came about when we were thinking of a way to connect ourselves with Kyran. We decided to get a plaque on the wall for him.”

The plaque was unveiled by Kyran’s parents, Carl and Debbie, whilst opening a night of fundraising for him which raised more than £600.

Mrs Richmond, Kyran’s mother, said: “I think it’s a really lovely idea. Kyran loves going to the gym with his Grandad and he loves all of the banter he has down there with the other lads. He doesn’t have a large circle of friends so it’s good for him to have that social experience every week, he loves going there.”

Dozens of people turned out to support Kyran and raise money for the family to make memories with him while they can. To donate to Kyran’s fund visit gofundme.com and search Kyran’s Dreams or visit kyranrichmondfundraising.co.uk
