SHOPPERS, visitors and workers in Northallerton can ward off their hunger pangs and support a local charity at the same time.
Every Wednesday between noon and 1.30pm volunteers from Hambleton FoodShare serve up hot homemade soup and roll for just £2.
There is a choice of three soups each week and tea and coffee is also available from the service at the Zion United Reformed Church on the High Street.
“Our soup is made by volunteers, served by volunteers and all the money raised goes to supporting Hambleton FoodShare – your local foodbank,” said co-ordinator Margaret Brice.
“We provide emergency food parcels for people who are in temporary financial crisis and struggling to feed themselves and their families. This could be because they have lost their job, become incapacitated or the result of a delay in benefit payments.”
She added: “As we are a registered charity, we are run almost entirely by volunteers and rely heavily on fundraising.
“We thought soup and a roll would go down well not only with shoppers but workers needing a quick, cheap and healthy lunch and allow us to raise much needed funds at the same time so please come along and support us.”
