A HIT and run incident where an elderly woman was knocked over by a large family car is being investigated by police.
Witnesses reported hearing a “loud bang” as the car hit the woman, believed to be in her 70s, before driving away along North Road, in Darlington on Friday morning.
Durham Police confirmed the woman appeared uninjured following the incident at a set of traffic lights and pedestrian crossing near North Road’s junction with Lowson Street.
A witness at the scene said: “I was on North Road near the Co-op when I heard a loud bang and a car braking.
“To me, it looked like the back end of the car came up and I saw a little old lady getting up and dusting herself off at the side of the road.
“The car didn’t stop after hitting her and just drove off. The lady carried on walking towards the bus stop.
“A lot of people went over to the lady to ask if she was okay and she just got on the bus so it doesn’t look like she was injured.”
A Durham Police spokeswoman confirmed that the driver is being sought by police in connection with the incident.
