A GREEN-FINGERED couple from Ferryhill have won a housing association’s annual gardening competition.
Patricia and Karl Kavanagh took first prize in the 2016 Durham Aged Mineworkers’ Homes Association (DAMHA) Pot Plant competition.
Their garden, in Deanbank, Ferryhill, was deemed the best of the dozens of entries received for this year’s competition.
Mrs Kavanagh said: “We were so pleased when we discovered we had won because, having seen the standard of gardens which have won in the past, it was so unexpected.”
Karl and Patricia received £50 for winning the competition and are now busy planning to retain their title next year.
DAMHA President Gordon Parkin, said: “The job of judging gets harder every year but we were in unanimous agreement that Patricia and Karl were worthy winners.”
