DURHAM City MP Roberta Blackman-Woods has visited a community luncheon club organised by volunteers.

It is run by people from Gilesgate Residents’ Association, Laurel Avenue Community Association and Kings Church and is open to everyone, especially senior citizens.

Food is donated by Tesco and prepared by volunteers at Laurel Avenue Community Centre every Thursday from noon for £4 per person, with a free game of bingo afterwards.

Ms Blackman-Woods enjoyed a two-course meal along with tea and coffee at the centre last week.

She said: “I hope that the whole community gets behind this project and many people from the Gilesgate area do get involved and pop in for a lunch.

“Both the food and the company were excellent.”
