A SUPERFIT fund-raiser is half-way through an epic bid to raise thousands of pounds for charity – by completing four gruelling challenges in a row.

Andrew Wilson completed the 140-mile Coast to Coast route by bike in July, riding with two friends and completing the distanced in ten hours and 30 minutes.

Now he has just completed the even tougher ride the length of the country, from John O’Groats to Land’s End, in just seven days, both solo and with friends for part of the way.

The journey was made with no support assistance – and each daily leg of the trip averaged 125 to 140 miles.

But there’s no stopping Andrew and on September 24 he’ll be off again, this time running the mountainous marathon that is the Yorkshire Three Peaks, scaling the heights of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

And even that won’t be the end of his exhausting efforts - for then he’s off to Africa, for a five-day trek to the top of the continent’s highest peak, the 5,895m Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

Andrew is originally from North Yorkshire and attended Kirkby Fleetham Primary School and Northallerton College before heading to Sheffield Hallam University to study architecture. He is now qualified and works at a practice in Manchester.

He has embarked on his epic challenges to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society, in memory of his grandmother Marion Mackay, who was a teacher trainer for special needs students in Didsbury, Manchester.

After arriving at Land’s End Andrew admitted: “I went into this week with a level ignorance, being told before that seven days is tough, no support, and I'm doing it the 'wrong way round'.

“But this week has mentally and physically challenged me and my comfort zone, which is what I set out to do.

“I've found limitations to some of my abilities, whilst discovering and pushing others more than I have ever have done before.”

He was met with a well-deserved pint of beer at Land’s End by his sister-in-law Susannah Wilson and her sister Laura Phillips.

Susannah also recently has raised £2.6k for the charity Mind, by running 10km a day for the whole of February.
